This page contains information regarding Speech training that is offered at YSA.
Senior Speech – (11-18 yrs olds, 12 as of Jan. 1, 2013)
The Speech portion of our club meetings will include instruction, homework assignments, practice and critiquing. In the early months of the season more instruction on how to find, write, or cut and perform a speech is needed. As the year progresses, however, meetings decrease and become less instructional and more focused on practice and critique. Active participation of parents and students is necessary.
Meetings will begin on time. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to get settled.
Speech Club meets:
September thru May
Wednesdays 3:00-5:30
The following NCFCA speech categories are available:
- Platforms: Persuasive, Illustrated Oratory, Biographical Narrative
- Interpretative: Humorous, DUO, Open, Original
- Limited Preparation: Apologetics, Extemporaneous, Impromptu
For more details about the above speech categories, see www.ncfca.org Speech page.
Practice and homework may take 1-3 hours per week until pieces are selected and memorized.
Junior Speech/Debate- (8-11 yrs.)
Junior Speech/debate meets at the same time and on the same schedule as Senior Speech and is available for younger siblings of Senior members who are age 8-11 by Sept. 1, 2012. All junior students will have instruction, assignments, practice and critiquing during Club time or join the senior division for activities, drills and helping to time their events.
Community Speaking-
Opportunities will be sought for taking what we are learning out into the community. This will further our communications training and give us opportunity to be a blessing as we inform, persuade and delight community audiences.
